A ground-breaking ceremony for the Aegean Free Zone Mosque took place on August 21st with the participation of Nihat Zeybekci, Minister of Economy; Adnan Yıldırım, Deputy Economy Minister; Uğur Öztürk, General Manager of the Free Zones General Directorate; Mustafa Toprak, Governor of İzmir; Hamza Dağ, Member of Parliament from the Justice and Development Party; Erdoğan Bektaş, Governor of Manisa; Mehmet Turan, Board Chairman of Aliağa Free Zone and Faruk Güler, ESBAŞ CEO.

“The priorities of ESBAŞ are to produce, provide employment and increase the exports from our country. We sustain our operations by considering the needs of our employees and providing them a secure and peaceful environment with high quality standards. In this context, we noticed that our current prayer room is not big enough to cover the needs of employees of the AFZ anymore and that’s why, with the valuable contribution of our user companies, we are carrying out the AFZ Mosque project” explained ESBAS CEO Dr. Faruk Güler.

Güler remarked that the guidance from Minister Zeybekci and Ramazan Muslu, Müfti of İzmir,  has been very valuable in formulating the project.  Additionally,  the Aegean Free Zone Mosque Funding and Support Association  was formed in order to complete the legal processes to build the mosque. Total land area for  the mosque will be 4,190 sqm and 1,000 people will be able to pray inside. “It will be a good example of Selçuk Architecture and we are very happy to take role in such an important project,” said Guler.
