ESBAS CEO (Dr.) Faruk Guler was recently appointed as an ambassador for the eastern Mediterranean and Middle East by the World Free Zone Convention.  The WFZC consists of nearly 3,000 manufacturing and trade zones worldwide that operate under different names such as free zones, free trade zones and private economic zones and account for 25% of the foreign trade of the world’s countries.

WFCZ ambassadors are appointed for a 3-year term to promote free zone practices around the world, defend the rights and interests of the zones and to represent the convention before international governments, NGOs, businesses and the media.

Free zones located in China, India, the Arabian Peninsula and the eastern coast of the Mediterranean account for the highest amount of international trade.  Nineteen of the 3,000 free zones of the world are located in Türkiye. Every year, $24 billion of trade volume is created in Turkish free zones. Total employment generated by these free zones has reached 56,000.

The Aegean Free Zone is a leader among the free zones in Türkiye, with a trade volume of $5 billion and employment of 21,000. Today, the Aegean Free Zone is one of the leading export bases of Türkiye, with 200 manufacturing and trading companies. The Aegean Free Zone integrates cutting edge technologies to provide high-value added products that are light in weight but heavy in value.  This makes the Zone one of the pre-eminent centers because of its high use of advanced technology.
